Hand-block printing ~ beautiful work from Bagru, Rajasthan (Part II)

Dabu Block-Print Process

Once the block print has been done the fabric is covered by saw dust. This process is very important and unique in Dabu Printing as it seals the paste on the fabric and prevents the smudging.

The fabric is then put under the Sun to dry up. After the fabric dries up, the saw dust is removed using hands. The fabric is either washed or goes through another layer of block printing depending on the design.

Dabu process is used as a stand alone printing process as well as with Indigo. In our next blog we will be sharing more on the Indigo process.
